Cooking Food On A Barbeque By Keith Barrett Food that's cooked on a barbeque doesn't always have to taste bad. If you find it difficult to use a barbeque to cook to a high standard then there are some simple things that you can do to make things better.
The first point to mention here is that you don't have to be a professional chef to produce great tasting food. This article is really aimed at amateur chefs who want to produce good food for their guests.
With so many different grills on the market, you could be using one of many forms of barbeque to do your cooking. I tend to rely on a Weber BBQ, as I'm comfortable using them, but you should use whatever you are happy cooking with.
Let's talk about food hygiene first of all. If you're inviting people round to your house for a meal then you presumably like them. That being the case, it's rather important that you don't make them ill as a result of your food!
Just because you're
cooking in a seemingly more casual environment, you certainly shouldn't ignore the basic rules of food hygiene.
In particular, take care with meat products - it's important that raw meats don't come into contact with cooked meats.
All food needs to be cooked thoroughly too - don't serve anything that you're not sure about. It's not worth taking the risk.
What about the actual techniques involved in cooking on a BBQ? Fortunately, the basics are really fairly simple.
You need to make sure that you have a reasonably even heat and that you understand how your barbeque works. In particular, you need to be aware if the heat is not evenly distributed.
Don't be tempted to just stick some food on the grill and then wander away for a beer. Keep a close eye on the cooking. That way, you'll be able to deal with any problems as they crop up.
Have fun, cook safely and impress your friends!
